Description:

Prisma-Photonics is a rapidly growing startup company, developing the next-generation smart-infrastructure solution based on novel fiber-sensing technology (smart roads, smart cities, perimeters, and grid monitoring, etc.). The company offers an award-winning disruptive solution; a “sensor free” approach to smart infrastructure. The company is VC backed and in the revenues stage.

Combining pioneering technology in optical fiber sensing with state-of-the-art machine learning, we help prevent environmental disasters, protect human lives, and keep critical energy and transportation backbones running smoothly.

We are seeking a talented, self-driven, team-player, passionate Physicist to join our R&D team. In this role, you will develop and advance distributed fiber optic sensing technologies, combining theoretical modeling, simulations, fiber-optics systems design, and hands-on experimental work.

You will tackle complex physical challenges, contribute to next-generation product development, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to bring innovative solutions from concept to real-world deployment.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, enjoys working across disciplines, and wants to see their work go from concept to impact in the real world.

What You’ll Do:
  • Experimental and theoretical R&D work for the development of Prisma’s next generation distributed fiber optic acoustic sensing (DAS) electro-optic interrogation systems.
  • Gain unique end-to-end expertise across the full sensing system pipeline, spanning optical signal generation and propagation, coherent detection, DSP algorithms, and advanced data analysis.
  • Experimental Work to prove new concepts, develop innovative solutions for new products, and support current generations.
  • Develop software tools and simulations (Python/MATLAB/C++) for laboratory experiments, field data analysis, signal processing, and system modeling.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary R&D teams and projects.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues.
What You Bring:
  • MSc or PhD in Physics/Applied Physics/related fields with focus on Electro-Optics and fiber optics (e.g., Electrical Eng.; Optical Eng.).
  • Experienced in design and integration of Electro-optics and Fiber Optics systems and components: Optical Fibers, Opt. Amp., Lasers, detectors, Modulators, DWDM for at least 2 years.
  • Experience with electro optical noise analysis (phase noise, detector noise, amplifier noise, SNR).
  • Strong experimental (hands-on) and theoretical/simulation experience.
  • Experience with advanced optical measurement techniques and systems.
  • High level Programming in Phyton/MATLAB/C++.
  • Knowledge in digital signal processing – advantage.
  • Experience in telecom optics – advantage.
  • System Eng. capabilities and experience – advantage.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent individual & teamwork. Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Practical experience leveraging GenAI tools in real-world environments.
